Chateau on Lake Drive
3266 N Lake Drive Milwaukee
7 Bdrms / 4 Full & 1 Half Bath
This castle-like Lake Drive mansion, just listed today by Melanie Gilmore-Gaar of First Weber, was built in 1910 (and designed by Alexander Eschweiler) for Orrin Robertson and his wife Harriet Holton Robertson. Orrin was a Milwaukee concrete executive and Harriet was the daughter of famous Milwaukeean Edward Holton (Holton Ave, etc). The unique home was modeled after France's Château d'Azay-le-Rideau, which the Robertsons visited on a trip to Europe. The Journal and Urban Milwaukee both have articles on the history of this unique home.
The location is ideal: 1.35 gardened and wooded acres overlooking Lake Michigan on Lake Drive in Milwaukee's Eastside. This is just south of Shorewood and north of Lincoln Memorial Drive.
With over 9000+ square feet of living space and seven bedrooms, this place is quite large. We love the intricate detail in the woodwork and on the ceilings. Much of the home looks quite original however the kitchen has had a modern upgrade. The architecture, the gardens, the view of Lake Michigan - it's all impressive and beautiful.
(thanks to the listing agent Melanie Gilmore-Gaar for the permission to show the photos)
