Loft Life Part 2
141 N Water Street Milwaukee
1 Bedroom / 2 Full Bath
Back in the late 1800s, Milwaukee was the center of the tannery world and, in 1894, the Bradley and Metcalfe Shoe Company began making shoes and boots along the Milwaukee River at 141 North Water Street. After the company dissolved in 1924, the Yahr & Lange Drug Company occupied the building. (WisconsinHistory.org has an excellent background on the building.)
Finally, in 1997, this building began a conversion to 51 condos and became the Riverwalk Plaza. One-bedroom Unit #27 was listed just this week by Cornerstone Realtor's Stacey Fleming.
The location is at the confluence of the Milwaukee and Menomonee Rivers in the Third Ward. This building is part of Milwaukee's excellent mile-long Riverwalk (thus the name) that runs from here up along Water Street and runs up to Brewer's Hill.
We do adore loft-style condos and this one of the coolest we've seen with its soaring ceiling, exposed ductwork, and huge windows. This is a corner unit that faces northeast and has a wonderful little deck that hangs over Water Street. There's a good-sized separate bedroom but also has a spare bed in a loft over the living space. Very cool.
