The five bedroom Davidson home in River Hills with a unique motorcycle garage.
Harley-Davidson was founded in 1903 by William Harley, William Davidson, Arthur Davidson and Walter Davidson. The Davidsons emigrated to Milwaukee from Scotland in the 1850s. Walter Davidson served as the company's test driver and first President.
And in 1940, Walter C. Davidson, son of the founder, built this English Cottage Style home on Upper River Road in River Hills.
The home sits on twelve acres and up a long, wooded driveway. The "English Cottage Style" was popular in the United States from 1915 to 1940. The unique cedar shingle design was likely to mimic the thatched roof of an English cottage.
This home is in very good and very original shape. We particularly like the living room's built-in shelves, woodwork and stone fireplace. The exposed ceiling beams were sourced from the barn that stood on this property during the 1800s.
The most interesting part of this home might be the "Motorcycle Garage" that sits to the side of the garage. It has its own doors and can fit one to two bikes. According to the listing, it is possibly the first dedicated motorcycle garage.
